Chardonnay
Chardonnays popularity rose quickly due to its generous flavours and ease to grow. It is early ripening, naturally vigorous and relatively disease resistant. Most importantly, it grows in a wide range of climatic conditions, leading to a vast array of styles.
The Australian Chardonnay style is often difficult to categorise. Grown in warm climates, the flavours are lavish, ripe and uncomplicated. The structure is mouth filling and rounded. Peach, fig and melon flavours are common in these wines.
In cooler climates, the structure is tighter and leaner, resulting in lemon, grapefruit and green apple flavours. Secondary characters include nuts, toast and vanilla.
Australias’ Premium Chardonnays now stand alongside the best of Burgundy and California.
Exports are ever increasing, which indicates that not only Australians but also the world are enjoying Australian Chardonnay.
